The Rular Life Tour unfolds the humble daily life in the Sassi. After a fascinating historical introduction of the Sassi area, which starts in Piazza Pascoli, the tour continues along Via Ridola which crosses the city centre, named The Piano district. Walking along the main street, the guide will briefly illustrate the history of the Church of Purgatory, the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, as well as Piazza del Sedile, until the group reaches the Civita hill dominated by the Cathedral dedicated to the Madonna della Bruna and Saint Eustachio – both protectors of the city. The tour continues towards Via Muro, from which the group can admire an extraordinary complete view of Sasso Caveoso, the Murgia plateau and the Idris Clift. Once in Via Buozzi, you will visit a traditionally furnished cave dwelling - proof of how the poor inhabitants of Matera had lived until the mid-fifties, before 1953 De Gasperi's Restoration act entered in force. Afterwards, following winding and picturesque alleys you will reach the Vicinato a Pozzo, a place where the visitor can relive an amazingly vivid history related to social and anthropological importance that the neighbourhood had assumed for centuries in the daily life of the inhabitants of the Sassi area. The final part of the tour takes place in the Altieri Gusti store, where the group will taste a variety of traditional products of our region.
