The walking guided tour of the Sassi starts with a historical and architectural introduction to the Sassi before entering the Sasso Caveoso area. There you are going to visit a traditionally furnished cave dwelling - proof of how the poor inhabitants of Matera had lived until the mid-fifties, before 1953 De Gasperi's Restoration act entered in force. At the end of the tour you are going to discover a Rupestrian church, completely carved in the rock, that holds precious iconographic traces of Greek-Italian monasticism that date back to X-XIII century.
