In the IV century B. C. Taranto, known as the Spartan Colony became one of the richest and most important city in the whole world as far as to be considered even today the Capital of Magna Grecia.
Nowadays the city still protects with pride the legacy of that magnificent past, as evidenced by the Taranto’s National Archeological Museumbetter known as MARTA Museum.
The Greek, Byzantine and Norman-Swabian-Angevin buildings are still noticeable in the Aragonese Castle. The castle looks back on a long history.
In Aragonese times it was built following the new criteria imposed by the improvement of the artillery. Moreover, in order to visit the city from another point of view you can’t miss the minicruise that allows you to go through the most characteristic place of the city, the sea. In fact the city is also called The city of Two Seas. The experience will be accompanied by a tasting of local products.
