The Regional Park of Rock-hewn Churches is situated on the wide highland of Murgia and has been declared Unesco World Heritage Site since 2007. It is a hilly open area, characterized by deep karstic slits called “Ravines”. The spectacular landscape unfolds on the other side of the canyon and allows you to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the entire Sassi area. During the historic-naturalistic walk, you will relive the path of human mankind: from the Palaeolithic settlements to the Neolithic villages of “Murgia Timone”, from the sheep farming communities to the greek-byzantine ones, which, in this same highland, built monasteries, lavras, and rock-hewn churches.
