Declared Unesco World Heritage Site in 2007, the Regional Park of Rupestrian Churches is situated on the vast highland of Murgia and is characterized by deep karstic slits called “ravines”. Setting out on our hiking tour, you are going to discover the evolution of mankind: from the Palaeolithic settlements to the Neolithic villages of “Murgia Timone” area, from the sheep farming communities to the Greek-Byzantine ones, who, on that highland, built monasteries, lavras, and rupestrian churches, completely carved in the rock. Enjoy being close to nature and admire, at sunset, one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the Sassi of Matera, that unfolds beyond the canyon.
