The hill town of Montalcino is the birthplace of Brunello wine – one of the finest DOCG wines in Italy – and a place of production of quality DOP olive oil and honey. Montalcino, however, is not just about food and wine. The town has been settled since Etruscan times according to historical documents. The Cathedral of San Salvatore, the ancient Town Hall, overlooking the beautiful Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Garibaldi and the Astrusi theater, the Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso – patron saint of the city, honored on May 8 – those are just a few examples of the magnificent cultural heritage of the city.
