Tursi was probably founded by the Goths, after the destruction in 410 of the village of Anglona. Tursi is characterised by unique urban planning, which reflects the town's glorious past. The “Rabatana” - the highest part of Tursi - was the stronghold of the Saracens during the Middle Ages; there you will see several ancient aristocratic palaces and the Church of St. Maria Maggiore.
